The Proper Order to Apply Makeup

The proper order is everything! Even applying one article out of place can throw your look into a tailspin.

Primer: applying a primer to your face smooths your face & preps it before you put on heavier makeup

Concealer: using your concealer before your foundation will make for a less splotchy look & make for longer coverage & less touch ups

Foundation/Tinted Moisturizer: carefully brush on your liquid foundation using downward strokes to avoid lifting noticeable facial hairs & being cautious around areas with concealer

Powder: using a fluffy powder brush, use your powder to set your makeup on your face and neck

Contour/Blush: this is the time to contour your face using your blush, bronzer & highlighter around your cheekbones & jawline

Eye Primer: prep your eyes with primer to ensure smooth coverage for your eyeshadow & longer lasting color

Eyeshadow: play up your eyes with colorful eyeshadows! Don't be afraid to experiment

Mascara: use an eyelash curler to lift your eyelashes up and out & then cover them with 2 coats of your favorite mascara (if you use eyeliner, apply before applying mascara)

Lips: always finish with the lips, for a more pigmented look, use a lipstick & then coat with lipgloss

Glamour-Eyes

Everyone wants bigger eyes! They're the main focus of the face and are all beautiful because they are all unique & no pair are the same --  like fingerprints! -- but we can't all be born with Amanda Seyfried eyes. Using clever makeup tricks you can play up your eyes to make them seem bigger and bolder!

Highlight: using a highlight, or light shimmer eyeshadow, in the inner corners of your eyes & upper brow bone you give the illusion that you eyes extend further out and up

Dark Crease: lining the crease of your eyelid with a dark brown or gray accentuates the the lid and creates a more dramatic, deep set eye. Avoid blacks on the crease as it can become too dramatic & give the appearance of a more closed, sultry eye

Winged Eyeliner: winged liner exaggerates the eye & pulls it farther out, making for a more elongated eye

Curled Upper Lashes: lifting your upper lashes off of your eye opens them up & takes away the sleepy feeling you can get with droopy, tired lashes. When you coat them with mascara make sure to begin from the root of the lash and brush upward & not outward

Peach Concealer: using a concealer with orange undertones can counter the blue undertones found in under eye circles & make them disappear, unlike concealers with yellow undertones which can actually bring out the circles

White Eyeliner: wear white eyeliner on the waterlines of your eyes to make your eyes look wider and more doe-eyed

Below the Waterline: apply black eyeliner below the waterline for a more wide eye, be careful not to go too or your eyes can look droopy rather than excited

Use a couple, or all of, these tricks to define & widen your big beautiful eyes!

The Neapolitan

The Neapolitan is Infinite Pretty's personal guide for beginner contour-ers. It's a simple combination that even the most inexperienced makeup artist can master. It's designed just like your favorite neapolitan ice cream!

Vanilla Highlighter: use a highlighter to line the peak of your cheekbone above the apples of your cheek to the tops of your ears, do this without smiling, like you would blush, it will make for a more fluid natural look

Strawberry Blush: apply your blush starting by swirling it on the apples of your cheeks & then sweeping it up towards the temples for a more youthful look, if you apply the blush too low on the face it will make you cheeks look droopy & aged

Chocolate Contour: using a contour powder, or even a bronzer, brush along the lower cheek line diagonally up to the lowest point of your eyes, going any further will make the definition seem unnatural & silly looking

There are other facial features that can be contoured & highlighted such as your brow bones, the jawline, the nose & a couple others. Always start simple when it comes to defining you face. Get the feel for defining the cheeks before you move to any other prominent features & soon you'll be a contouring pro!

Repurposed Makeup

Eye shadow, bronzer, eyeliner, lip gloss, cheek tint? They're all just labels! Labels that limit what your expectation of the product. You assume lip gloss is only good for glossing your lips & eye shadow for shadowing you eye! Wrong! These labels limit your expectation of the product but not the many functions of the product.

Blush → Eyeshadow: certain shades of blush can make appealing eyeshadow colors, usually they tend to be on the pink side, you can apply blush the same way you would regular eyeshadow

Mascara → Eye Liner: if you're ever in a bind & find yourself without eyeliner, you can use a gel eyeliner brush dipped in mascara as a makeshift eyeliner 

Lip Gloss → Cheek Tint: warm up your cheeks by squeezing a small dot of lip gloss onto the tip of your finger & rubbing it into the apples of your cheeks

Bronzer → Brow Powder: use bronzer precisely how you would regular brow powder, but be sure if you do this to NOT use the bronzer all over your face or you brows will just blend in

That's not all!

Concealer → Eye Primer: it's the same color as your skin & is used to hold powder on your face anyway, why not on your eyes too?

Eyeshadow → Highlighter: use a light shadow (preferably with a little shine) and use a contouring brush to sweep the eyeshadow slightly above where you apply blush 

Lip Balm → Cheek Highlight: rubbing clear lip balm on the apples of your cheek with reflect light and make for a quick highlight

There are so many uses for each type of makeup! Don't let labels tell you the limit to their use!

New Year, New Hue

New Year means new trends, new styles, new fashion but why not keep it classic this New Year's Eve by sporting these classic combinations with a little twist!

1) Red lips paired with a smoky eye! The twist? Silver eyeshadow!

A classic sultry party look. Mix this look up by adding some sparkle to your smoky! Begin by covering the base of the eyelid with a silver eyeshadow, create the smoky effect by lining your crease with the black shadow as well as the outer corner of your eye. Finish off with a red lip!

2) Emerald eyes with a nude lip! The twist? Glitter eyeliner!

An elegant way to add a pop of color. Why not go further with the pop and add a glitter eyeliner for a real eye popping look! Sweep the green shadow over the base of the eyelid and add some highlight to the brow bone & inner corners. Add a nude lip & some winged glitter eyeliner to finish!

3) Rose eyeshadow with a dark lip! The twist? Gold false eyelashes!

A classic good girl with a dark side. Brighten up the dark side by adding some fun gold falsies! Sweep the rosy color across your lid, so that it peeks out behind the lashes. Carefully place the full false eyelash across the tops of your lids. Do not put mascara on the bottom lashes, instead try a gold eyeliner or solid black for definition. Finish off with a dark lip!

4) Champagne shadow with a pale pink lip! The twist? Smoky eyeliner!

A sweet and simple party look. Harsh it up with a smoky rim around the eye! Start by applying the shadow all over the lid of the eye and add highlights to the brown bone & inner corners. Take a pencil eyeliner (one that you have to sharpen) & put the tip over an open flame for 2-3 seconds (let it cool for at least 15 seconds), this will make for a smudged, less precise line. Use it to line the top of your eyelid & your lower water line. Finish with a pale pink lip!

Now you can start the New Year with a classic look with a modern twist!

Lashing Out

Lashes are an important feature of the eye. They surround and define the eye to give a more feminine appeal, but sometimes our lashes lack the extra oomph we desire. Simple drugstore products such as vaseline & baby powder can give our lashes the perfect definition.

1) Vaseline ($5.99) rubbing vaseline on and around the lash lines the night before has shown to protect your lashes during makeup removal and promote hydration leaving l o n g e r and thicker lashes over time

2) Baby Powder ($3.99) apply a thin coat of mascara and then cover lashes (using a cotton swab or your finger) with a layer of baby powder & finish off the lashes by applying a final coat of mascara until no powder is visible. This is a quick & instant way to get fuller and thicker lashes

3) L'Oréal Lash Serum ($14.99) using the applicator, apply the serum directly to the natural lashes to promote healthy growth, strength and protection during makeup removal. It may take up to 4 weeks, but you will see fuller and l o n g e r lashes

Stick to Gloss

You have this amazing shade of lipstick but you're more of gloss person. Don't go out and buy a new shade of lipgloss, make your own using the lipstick!

You will need:
Lipstick
Vaseline/Petroleum Jelly
Glitter (optional)
Microwave
Toothpick (or something to stir with)
Container for gloss

1) Start by mashing the lipstick with the jelly in a small bowl until desired color is acquired
2) Put mixture in the microwave for 5 seconds, repeat this until mix is a smooth liquidy texture
3) Let the gloss cool and pour the remains into a container of your choice

Enjoy your new lipgloss!

Tip: if you're adding glitter add a small amount in before you put it in the container

Broken Bullet Quick Fix

Broken lipstick isn't the end of the world! It's a lot easier to fix than you think!

1) Start by twirling the container to its highest position, then heat up the broken part of the bullet and then the broken part in the container (be sure not to melt the lipstick or container) while the pieces are both hot fit them together and hold for 30 seconds
2) Dip a cotton swab in water and smooth the crease of the lipstick to a desired look
3) Place the lipstick in a refrigerator for about 2 hours

Now your lipstick is good as new and ready to be used!

Makeup Brush Functions

You own all these different brushes for makeup but do you really know what they're used for?

A) Powder: Best used in circular motions, this brush is used to finish off a look with powder foundation.
B) Angled Face: The angle of the brush allows for easier application of blush, makeup around the eyes & nose, and contouring the face.
C) Liquid Foundation: Bristles on these brushes tend to be more dense and close together. This make it easier to distribute the foundation evenly across the face as well as move easily around features.
D) Eye Shadow: Used for smudging and inner corners of the eyes, this brush is easier to maneuver around creases and corners.
E) Eyeliner: Using this brush to apply eyeliner makes for a smudgier, less polished look, great for a smoky eye.
F) Highlighter: This brush is used to apply highlighting colors to the face evenly and lightly to ensure a more natural look.
G) Buffer: This brush is used to buff loose powder into the skin for a longer stay as well a more finished look.

There are so many brushes and almost all of them can be used for other jobs and tasks. Don't be afraid to experiment! There are no rules when it comes to makeup!

Broken Compact Quick Fix

We've all gone through that traumatic event of dropping our favorite bronzer, or blush, or that perfect shade of foundation that cost more than last months paycheck or was just impossible to find! Well it's okay, breath and take these simple steps to restore that compact!

1) It's quite simple really. Start by crushing up the rest of the compact into a fine powder. (I know it sounds traumatizing but it will be worth it)! We suggest covering the compact in saran wrap and crushing it with the blunt side of a makeup brush.
2) Add one teaspoon of rubbing alcohol and stir into the powder. Repeat this step until it becomes a thick liquid. (Be careful not to add too much or you'll end up with liquid foundation)!
3) Use something smooth (ie. your finger, a popsicle stick, a small spatula) to smooth the mixture.
4) Let it sit for 24 hours and it will be good as new!

Now you don't have replace that perfectly good makeup! So next time you don't have to freak out and mourn the loss of an amazing product, you can just fix it up and it'll be like it never happened!

Mascara Saver Quick Fix

Mascara clumps and dries up. It's inevitable, but don't toss that clumpy mascara, fix it!

Simply drop 2 or 3 drops of saline solution into the clumpy mascara bottle. Pump a couple times and like magic the mascara will be smooth and like new! You might even find you have more mascara left than you thought!

Highlight: Brighten Your Eyes

1) Start with the inner corner of the eye and sweep it with a shimmery white shadow to open the eye.
2) Line the crease with a dark neutral color such as brown (or black for a more sharp look). This will define the eye and make the eye lid appear fuller.
3) Use the same shimmering color as the inner corner and lightly sweep it across the brow bone.
4) Finish off with a white liner on the bottom lash line and a coat of black mascara. This will really open the eyes and make them appear larger.

For a brighter day look sweep the lid with a lilac color. This color really opens the eyes and makes them appear less tired looking!

The Ombre Lip

Ombre is one of the newest, hottest trends in makeup and fashion. It has hit from nails to clothing and now lips!


1) Pick two lipsticks in different hues. This works best with two lipsticks of the same general color.
2) Use the darker shade to line the top of the upper lip and use your finger to smooth it down into the rest of the upper lip.
3) Repeat the same process with the lighter lipstick on the bottom lip.
4) Coat with gloss and you've sealed your ombre lip look!


For a more gradient look put a light coat of the darker lipstick on the top of your bottom lid!

The College Girl's Quick Fix

Sometimes you just don't have the time or effort to get yourself all dazzled up for class. Maybe you had a long night of studying... or maybe you had a long night of not studying (we're not judging). Either way here are a few life-saving college essentials!

1) Liquid foundation is the fastest and easiest way to even out the skin while covering blemishes for a quick way to smooth out your face after a long night.

2) Pink is among the most flattering colors; a pink or peachy blush will add dimension and liveliness to the face.

3) If you only have a limited amount of time in the morning, mascara should be at the top of the list of things to apply. It will define the eyes and instantly remove that groggy, sleepy look.

4) If you’re looking for that extra sparkle without looking too done up for class, a peachy lip gloss will fill out the lips and pull your look together.
